Megan the Welsh Doll

I bought this pattern a couple years ago with the aim to knit the doll for my friend, Dot. Thanks to the lockdown I finally got around to it.

The pattern is by Sandra Polley from Knits & Pieces (http://knitsandpieces.co.uk/) the pattern is also available on Amazon, Ravelry and Etsy. Sandra Polley is a great writer of toy knitting patterns and writes amazing knitted bear patterns too.

The pattern was easy to understand, although I think row numbers in the pattern would have helped a little.

I have a bug bear about dolls with clothing painted on or stitched as part of the doll body. I think children like to remove and dress the dolls and this part of doll play is often removed from modern dolls for cost purposes. I was very pleased though that this doll included clothing that was removable (apart from the socks).

The doll worked out as 11″ tall and is a lovely as a play doll and a decoration. The body and most of the clothing could also be knitted in the round which eliminates a lot of the sewing up.

Anyway, if you’re looking for some really well thought out toy knitting patterns the Knits & Pieces website is well worth a look.
